=====================================

How safe is anyone’s copyright online?

Well imagine my surprise when I clicked on a website link to discover that someone had not only copied my website to their server – but was selling my ebook and undercutting me in the process! Some dishonest person operating from Eastern Europe had literally stolen my entire business and I discovered it only by sheer luck.

After some very lengthy and threatening emails I got them shut down, but the question remains, how safe is your copyright online and what can you do to protect it?

Traditionally written works have enjoyed copyright protection not only through the rule of law, but also because of the physical difficulty in stealing another person’s work. Let’s face it, photocopying a 200 page book rates about as much fun as watching paint dry and at 5 cents a page you’re talking a quick ten dollar printing bill. If you steal someone’s book, print up a thousand copies and try to get it onto the local bookstore’s shelves, the chances of getting caught rank pretty high.

But the online world has changed those rules and physical safeguards significantly. The Internet, email and the Web make it easier than ever to steal someone else’s work. With the most basic skills and a few mouse clicks, someone can take your book, your website, and along with it weeks, months, and even years of your hard work.

Though intellectual property and international copyright laws apply to online works, enforcement of those laws is expensive and, in many cases, hard to enforce.

Well don’t despair, you do have options if you find someone has violated your copyright online. Anytime I find someone violating my copyright, which isn’t very often, I take these three steps in rapid-fire fashion.

First, make 100% sure the other person realizes they have violated your copyright. You can send them a nice but firm note telling them to stop whatever activity violates your copyright. If that doesn’t work move on to step two.

Second, once you know with 100% certainty they understand they have violated your copyright, yet refuse to respond or stop, you need to shut them down by eliminating their ability to do business!

Send them an email with a carbon copy sent to their Internet Service Provider (ISP), their credit card processor, their web hosting company, and even the company that sold them their domain name.

Finally, follow this email up with a hard copy letter to each party sent via registered mail. In the email and letter detail exactly how they have blatantly violated your copyright and you want them to desist immediately.

By taking this approach you can often just bypass the offending party because the companies enabling them to transact business don’t want any trouble. If you can show copyright violation they will shut the perpetrator down to avoid getting sued themselves.

Though not foolproof, this strategy can help you when facing down a blatant online copyright violator. Just remember to act quickly, thoroughly and don’t hesitate to contact your attorney for advice.

Author’s Note: By no means let this article dampen your enthusiasm for operating your business or selling your ebook online!

In my opinion there is no better way to make a living!

Your copyright is basically as safe online as it is offline. However, if a sneak thief entered your home – you’d call the cops. Well, now you know what to do if a sneak thief ever gives you trouble online!

By Jim Edwards

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Let’s face the facts!

Almost everyone online today is looking to make or save a buck any way they can. In the past, most of the people who clicked on your affiliate links used to purchase without a second thought… but, as times get tougher online, it seems a growing number won’t!

As money gets tighter and product prices rise, people who know how to manipulate the system will sometimes replace your affiliate ID with theirs and “hijack” your commissions.

Here’s an example:

Let’s say your affiliate link is www.ebookaboutcats.com/?live-well.

Say the highjacker uses the affiliate ID of captain-hook. What he would do is replace your ID with his, and buy from the URL www.ebookaboutcats.com/?captain-hook.

The bottom line: the hijacker puts your money in his pocket.

In other cases, they can’t stand the thought of you “making money off them” so they bypass you by simply chopping off the end of your affiliate link that contains your ID.

Instead of buying from www.ebookaboutcats.com/?live-well, the bypasser will simply “chop off” the affiliate ID at the end and simply buy from the plain URL www.ebookaboutcats.com –without your affiliate ID attached!

Either way, you get cheated out of your rightful commission.

To help you fight these affiliate link hijackers I offer a couple of my best (proven and battle tested) tips, which will at least confuse these “hijackers” and, in many cases, often defeat and disarm them completely.

Side Note: If someone really, really wants to steal your affiliate commission, they will find a way; however, most hijackers are just opportunists who will only act if they see an easy buck.

The first and cheapest way to hide your affiliate links is using a javascript redirect page. This is where you hide your affiliate link in a page on your site using a simple javascript that redirects people to your affiliate link.

It works great not to expose your “naked” affiliate link in your actual email messages and ezine ads, but, once people get redirected to the true affiliate link, many affiliate programs expose the affiliate link along with your ID in the browser address bar.

Here’s an example of a redirect script in action. Click: http://www.ebookfire.com/esejs.html

Notice how the link takes you to a page where you can see my affiliate ID, ebookfire, in your web browser’s address bar.

Like it or not, someone can replace my ID with theirs and “hijack” the commission… but at least the redirect script keeps them from immediately seeing my “naked” affiliate link (http://hop.clickbank.net/?ebookfire/ebksecrets) when I publish it in my newsletter, email, or on my website.

You can get free redirect scripts just about anywhere you find free javascripts. Here is the script I use http://www.ebookfire.com/jrs.shtml.

A better way to hide your affiliate links is using a zero- frame or “invisible” frame that masks the affiliate link by making it appear you are sending people to a page on your website. In reality, you are actually sending them to your affiliate link.

This is the technique used by those “sub-domain” redirect services that provide you with urls like http://ese.ebookfire.net.

While giving someone a link like that is much better than using a “naked” affiliate link such as http://hop.clickbank.net/?ebookfire/ebksecrets, there is a problem. As soon as someone does a “view >> source” in their web browser they’ll see your naked affiliate link plain as day… which instantly blows your cover!

Currently the best way to protect your affiliate commissions from ruthless hijackers is to use a combination of a zero- frame page along with URL encryption. This involves sending someone to URL that looks like a page on your site, but actually pulls in your affiliate link like those “sub- domain” services. However, there’s one critical difference…

If someone does a “view >> source” in their browser, you have added protection in that all they will see is a jumble of computer code instead of your naked affiliate link.

Check out this example of a zero-frame with URL encryption in action.

Click: http://www.ebookfire.com/ese.html

Side Note: Beware of cloaking scripts that use javascript to mask your affiliate link because they could malfunction in some web browsers.

Here’s the bottom line: if you are going to sell through other people’s affiliate programs, never send a “naked” affiliate link… you’re just asking for people to hijack or bypass you if you do.

If you want to get paid more often through your affiliate links, make sure it’s not obvious you’re referring people to an affiliate link. If they can’t easily see how to hijack or bypass your link, a lot more people who would have taken the money out of your pocket will just go ahead and buy through your link – which is, after all, the whole point!

How to Prevent Online Identity Theft

- by Jim Edwards

(c) Jim Edwards – All Rights reserved>p> http://www.thenetreporter.com

=====================================

Identity theft rates one of the fastest growing crimes in America today and the Internet can make it even easier for some criminals to take your good name and drag it through the mud.

Identity theft involves criminals stealing your personal information such as credit card numbers, social security numbers and other information, usually to buy things on credit or to empty out your bank accounts.

Through your financial liability with your credit cards may be limited to $50 to $500, it can take years for you to clean up the mess online identity thieves leave behind.

As with any crime, an ounce of prevention may just cause the would-be identity thieves to leave you alone and move on to an easier target.

The following tips can help you avoid having your identity stolen.

1. Never give out your social security number, online or otherwise. No company you buy things from needs your social security number.

If you do business on the web, obtain a a Federal Tax ID number to use instead of your social security number.

Once criminals have your social security number, along with your birth date and address, they have virtually everything they need to start wreaking havoc in your life.

2. Use a good anti-virus program. One of the ways criminals get your credit card numbers, passwords and other sensitive information is through “Trojan horse” viruses that log your keystrokes and transmit information to the evil doers.

The “Bad Trans” virus that has caused so much havoc is just such a virus.

3. Always use a “secure” server when transmitting credit card information over the web and know something about the company before handing over your information.

You can feel pretty confident that you are using a secure server if a little lock displays in the status bar on the bottom of your web browser.

4. A popular new way to pay for goods and services online is to “use your checking account just like a credit card”.

Be extremely cautious about paying this way through the web. By giving a company your checking account numbers you give away much of the information necessary to empty your bank account!

5. Never give out information such as your birthday, marital status, education level or other personal information.

This additional information makes it extremely easy for criminals to make themselves appear legitimate when they pose as you. Websites should ultimately only require you to provide your name, email and billing information for a purchase.

You should avoid any site requiring more information than that.

These criminals prey on people’s ignorance and you can usually defeat them simply by making it too hard for them to get your information.

If you do find yourself a victim, immediately contact police and get legal help. Do not wait because you feel embarrassed or “stupid” over what happened.

Waiting only lets the trail grow cold and limits how much law enforcement can do to help you.

Bucky Balls

What appears to be a jar containing a bunch of silver balls is actually a very cool Christmas toy for teens. 216 powerful magnets, each one capable of holding all the rest, allow infinite combinations of shapes, puzzles and configurations to be molded.
Did you know that ancient soldiers baked pizza on their shields-when they weren’t busy flying kites to frighten their foes? This unique perspective on the history of mankind’s customs, ideas, inventions and more is informative and thoroughly entertaining. Put the fun into history with this surprisingly fun book.

Say Anything

A funny game with simple rules that gets everyone involved. Everyone gets a marker board and write their answer to one of the many, and often funny, questions. Then players guess who has the winning answer. A great way to find out how your friends and family think whilst working out the answers to some hotly debated questions. For players 12 years +.

Another writer says this:

There probably isn’t a human being in any industrialized country that has not been to an amusement park or some version of an amusement park and seen a large scale version of
electric model trains. Most could not resist taking a ride on these fascinating mini-engines. Some are steam driven and others electric but the appeal remains the same.

In the 1960’s, bringing scaled models into the home becomes a national past time in America and other countries. In America the term used to describe a train enthusiast, to include electric model trains, is “model railroader”. Britain also has a huge following of these hobbyists and refers to themselves as “railroad modelers”.

Any industrialized nation has long used train transport to move goods, especially large quantities or heavy items from one place to another. Although train travel is not the latest and fastest, vacations by way of train are still very popular. These types provide the train enthusiast a way to construct railways and systems. An electric system can range in size from something one could put on a shelf to a ride on version as seen in many amusement parks.

Sometimes we come to a point in our lives where everything seems to look bleak. A time when things aren’t going well with our job, or we have even lost our job. Maybe we still have our job, but the bills keep piling up faster than we can pay them. At times like this it seems like there are no answers to our dilemmas.

There are answers to our problems! Sometimes it is difficult to find these answers. So, where do we go, or where do we look for them? One important thing we can do is turn to Our Heavenly Father, pray to Him, in the name of His Son Jesus Christ. First, thank Him for all the blessings you have received. Then tell Him your problems, and ask Him to help you to solve them, and to help you find the answers you need, in order to improve your life. Read in The Holy Bible: “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:” St Matthew 7:7, “But seek ye first the kinkdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” St Matthew 6:33. We need to try our best to live good lives, so that when we pray to Our Heavenly Father He will help us!

Of course there are many things we can do to improve our lives, and we need to work on these things all the time. There are things like being kind to people and helping them whenever we can. Then they become your friends, and when you are in a time of need they may come and help you. Our whole life should be dedicated to service to our fellow men. If everyone would just help everyone else all the time what a wonderful world this would be. Of course this is not so, so we have to do the best we can. Remember to pray!

As well as your article title, resource boxes also play a vital role. Resource boxes are vital when it comes to article marketing. This is what helps turn readers into customers. It’s always a good idea to make sure that your resource box text flows smoothly from the article. This will naturally lead the reader towards your products, services and anchor links.

With resource boxes, article directories usually let you include two or three backlinks, which point to your own sales or opt-in pages. Some people make the mistake of just adding plain links. Wherever possible, always use anchor text links ensuring you include your target keywords. Over time, this will help to increase your rankings within the search engines.

It’s not just things like titles and resource boxes that you need to think about when it comes to article marketing. An article with a good structure will likely attract more readers. When writing your article it’s always wise to pay attention to its structure. If you make your paragraphs too big it can look cluttered, and can result in readers moving on to another article.

Do you want a simple way to make legitimate money online?

Do you want a simple way to make legitimate money online? Would you like to do it without having your own website? How about not handling products and selling them? Be an “Affiliate”! What do affiliates do? To put it simply, they are the link between customers and suppliers.

Suppliers need customers, and are willing to pay you to find them. What you do is get people to go to the supplier’s web page, blog, or landing page, etc. so they can find out more about what they are selling. Then hopefully they will buy something, and become their customer. Even if they don’t buy, many website owners will still pay you just to get names of potential customers.

How much do they pay? This depends on the supplier, what they are selling, and what kind of program they have. It is a good fairly easy way to make money. Your job will be how to find potential customers for them. There are many ways to do this, and you may even want to get your own website or blog, etc. to attract and find customers. This is when it pays to know lots of people and have many friends.

Anyway, it is easier than getting involved in selling the actual products yourself. To get started check out the best sellers you can, check out what they are selling, and study their websites. Check to see if they have an affiliate program, or contact them about it. Sign up to be their affiliate. Good luck!

Kids who want to learn to make money will control their young destinies.

If you are a kid and want to make money, you have one thing going for you that many adults do not. It is called optimism. Once you set out with a positive attitude and little negative work experience to reflect on, you will not inhibit yourself from taking action.

Planned action is the way you get things done. You plan out what you want to do, research it a bit and then when you have enough information, simply start by doing something to achieve your goal. So you set a goal like, ” I want to make $50 a week”. Then you make a list of ways you can do that. Here are some ideas to get you started.

Lemonade Stand

Baby Sitting

House Cleaning

Yard Work

Washing neighbor’s cars

Taking care of neighbor’s pets

Housesitting for vacationing neighbors (watering plants, feeding pets…)

For teens, you may consider snow shovelling although you should never do a task that is beyond your physical ability because getting injured at a young age is not worth the couple bucks you make. Never attempt a job that you feel is either beyond your ability or unsafe.

In any case, education and family come first, so if you find you have the time and the experience to carry out a particular task, then go for it. Otherwise, start small say by helping your parents with certain tasks to get the experience so that someone else will pay you for your work. Sometimes you will need to take a course or get experience to do certain types of work (like babysitting, lifeguard, sports referee…)

So part of the plan will be to get the experience, take the classes and then go after promoting your services. You can also do internet based work if you are so inclined. Many companies and individuals need odd writing jobs done for the internet, so pay attention in English class and get your reading and writing (and typing skills) up to snuff.

Sure it is a stretch to say that you are planning for your future by improving your typing skills while playing World of Warcraft, but that may not be such a bad idea!…..(and actually, it works – Wow players and other online communicators learn to type fast out of necessity, but typing is a very important skill to learn, so never too early to get started. If you are very young, check out a SpongeBob typing tutor or other typing software to help you get going.

In any case whether you want to make money “fast” or just start making money, your training, focus and action will help you get started. For a really fast money making tip, ask mom or dad if you can help them clean out the basement or garage (yech, why would you do that?), because then you can make a deal that says you get x% of any items you decide you no longer need and you can list on eBay. Just have your parents sign up for an eBay account and learn how to list your personal items for sale. Now there is some quick cash!

A strong desire to preserve and remember your past, enrich your present and inspire hope for future generations will motivate you to start scrapbooking. Telling your unique story with photos and words long after even you have forgotten them.

The first step to starting a scrapbook is to organize your photos. This can be a most daunting task, especially if you have never sorted your photos and you have boxes and boxes of photos in your closet or under your bed, waiting to be put into albums. A task that you never got round to, and now you have so many photos that it seems such a huge and time consuming job. Get your photos out and start to separate and collate them roughly into a chronological order of events. Put these piles of photos in order into a safe storage box still keeping them in their order. Use smaller boxes or envelopes to keep your sorted photos separated.

Step two. Decide on a project to start with. You may want to start with a special event for example: a 21st birthday, Grand dad’s 70th birthday, Christmas events over the years. Take the photos for this occasion out of the storage box. Using spare blank papers about the size of your scrapbook and lay out your photos on these papers in a way that appeals to you. Rearrange your photos on the spare pages until you are happy with the potential layout. Remember this is YOUR story so there is no right or wrong way. Keeping your photos on the pages, pile the pages in the order you have arranged them. Store these so that they are close at hand when you have a few minutes to work on your project.

Now you are ready to start your scrapbook. Take you first page and look carefully at the photos, discard blurry photos if possible. Crop (cut) your photos to emphasize or accent particular features in the photo, it may be cropping to get rid of excess background. There are plenty of various cropping tools and cutters available on the market to simplify this task. You are now ready to place your photos permanently on your album page. You can first mount your photo onto coloured photo-safe card or paper to enhance your page and then onto the actual scrapbook page. Next thing to do is to add a story box. This to tell anyone who is looking at the scrapbook the story behind the photos. Express your feelings and use plenty of descriptive words to give life to your photo.

Last thing to do is embellish (decorate) the page with shapes or photo-safe stickers. Don’t overdo this aspect as often time less is more. Place your page into a page protector so that pages and photos don’t rub against each other thus protecting your photos for the future. If you continue to work like this with just a few minutes a day you can accomplish and complete your scrapbook in no time at all. It is a most satisfying and inspiring feeling to complete an album to share with your family and friends.
